CONTACT We Care Hotline to Hold Open House
Westfield — CONTACT We Care, the 24-hour caring and crisis hotline recently named “2008 Best Statewide Volunteer Organization” by the New Jersey Governor’s Office of Volunteerism, will hold an Open House on Monday, February 9, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 170 Elm Street, Westfield. The general public is invited to attend to learn more about volunteer opportunities with the award-winning organization.
The 33-year-old non-profit organization, devoted to offering the gift of listening to callers in need, has trained more than one thousand volunteers since it first opened its doors in 1975. The next training class will begin on Monday, February 23, in Westfield.
CONTACT’’s 50-hour volunteer training includes presentations by experts in active listening, grief recovery, mental health issues, substance abuse, spirituality, and suicide prevention.
Along with a presentation by Training Director Susan Fasano, the Open House will include a special presentation on “Recipe for a Healthy Life” presented by Holistic Health Counselor Sharon Goldner of Westfield. This will be an interactive, fun, and informative presentation that promises to be beneficial to everyone in attendance.
A graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City, and certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and Columbia University Teacher’s College, Goldner assists individuals in making the connection between food, the mind and the body so that you can easily understand the path to health and vitality.
After healing herself from chronic low energy, addictions to sugar and caffeine and supporting her family through food allergies and illness, Sharon is passionate about educating and motivating others to take control of their health and happiness too. She is committed to helping everyone create their own recipe for a healthy life.
Her training as a Vegetarian Chef at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health & Culinary Arts in New York City enables her to work with clients in a fun and practical way.
“CONTACT’s Open House is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to learn more about our unique direct service organization and to meet and talk to current CONTACT volunteers,” said David Owens, executive director. “We are also pleased to provide our current and prospective volunteers with Sharon Goldner’s inspiring and empowering presentation about health and well-being.”
